As part of a global campaign, Ecosystem Restoration Camps is teaming up with Regeneration International’s Mexico project, Via Organica, to develop a model for how farmers in semi-arid regions can sequester carbon from the atmosphere, restore soil fertility, improve rainfall water retention, and restore tree cover. Together we are offering you the chance to learn how to restore degraded land, increase organic food production, and build a working model of Regenerative practices in the Guanajuato highlands of North Central Mexico.
This two week hands-on working and cultural exchange experience at the picturesque Via Organica Farm School, a training center 15 miles outside of the UN World Heritage Site of San Miguel de Allende, will help you develop your Regenerative perspective and skills.
The Via Organica Ranch is designed as a working model for how 75 hectares of once degenerated farmland and pastureland can become a Regeneration Hub in the semi-arid highlands (2100 meters) of Mexico, producing nutritious regenerative organic vegetables, herbs, fruits, seeds, and animal products for several thousand people at the Via Organica restaurant, farmers market, and food store in nearby San Miguel.
Throughout your experience you will learn different organic and regenerative farming techniques including biointensive gardening, compost making, seed-saving, and tree-planting. You will also be able to explore the local area surrounding the site, and visit the amazing colonial city of San Miguel de Allende.
This great work is one of the most powerful solutions to avert the the climate crisis. In order to regenerate the soils and forests of billions of acres of once fertile croplands and pasturelands, we need to highlight and, in some cases, build our own working models of how farmers can regenerate rural landscapes and rural livelihoods, on every continent, in every nation.
For your participation in this experience, we ask you to contribute 5,330 pesos as a Mexican resident and $550 as a non Mexican resident. If you are a member of Ecosystem Restoration Camps, your contribution is $500 as a non resident and 4,187 pesos as a resident. This contribution will provide you with the skills and inspiration to carry the Regeneration message and vision back to your home community as well as your meals and accommodation during your stay.
