Nakhanu is a Kenyan, a Secretary to the Board of Platform For Land Use Sustainability Kenya (www.pluskenya.net), Country Coordinator for The Vetiver Network International (TVNI www.vetiver.org) promoting vetiver projects in Kenya and linking suppliers to trainers. Nakhanu is a certified trainer by TVNI for nursery propagation/supply and soil and water conservation, moisture retention and erosion control. She also supervises projects for Rapha Vetiver Engineering Limited, a private firm that specializes in Soil stabilization and erosion control in Kenya.
With a vision to enable society to manage land & water resources sustainably; And a mission to motivate, educate society for adoption of innovative sustainable land & water resource management practices, Nakhanu has worked to promote proven innovations and technologies for sustainable land and water use, especially Vetiver System (Vetiveria zizanioides L. Nash, recently reclassified as Chrysopogon zizanioides L Roberty) commonly known as vetiver grass. A proven, environment friendly technology that is cost effective and simple to adopt for land reclamation and regeneration, runoff reduction, gully rehabilitation, water infrastructure protection, underground water recharge, slope protection, catchment rehabilitation, landslide prevention, etc. Nakhanu has trained and supplied vegetative material to multiple projects in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan, transforming lives and livelihoods.
